One of my New Year's Resolutions has been to make at least one functioning application for Windows this year, and I believe I've cornered what it'll be: A newsreader.

It's the one thing I miss, horribly, from the days when I used Firefox. Live Bookmarks were a godsend to be honest. Plug in an RSS reed, get a quick list of headlines, and click them to open them immediately in the browser. My thought is that this could be formed into an application quite simply, with a 'simple' mode of straight headlines in lists, full text then viewable in the application, or linking out to open in your browser.

Giving it a rough once over, I'm thinking the main issues programming wise will be getting the RSS feeds in, parsing them, then making that data plug into a framework that displays them. It'll be interesting to give this a go, but I think I'll aim for getting this done by April, just to give my plenty of cushion to do research, find resources, and experiment.

Also, the "Station Nineteen" reference last week was to an over arching name I want to give this, the 'station' mentality coming from the words used during the buildup to the MetroTwit launch, as well as a being stops on a "metro" transit system, and the number 19 being important to me.

I have a bit in reality to get caught up on, but I should have a minor bit of progress up on this by next weekend. See you all then!

I use Pulse on my iPod for news. Flud is also an interesting UI experiment, that has webOS card style elements, but crashes too frequently to be of any real use. I find that image thumbnails make browsing news a lot easier, while headline presence is also a must (especially for sources like NYTimes and such).
