MetroMail Series:

Edit #1: Changed background to lighter version, cleanup

It's been awhile since I've uploaded anything, so I apologize about that.

The UI of the settings would be primairly black in the back to represent it being in the "background" of the application, and the sorting of the options through which part of the program they are in, as well as the list on the left.

Anyone have any suggestions on modifications to this?

The following are links to the other parts of this concept:

Before I get to this piece: I've really enjoyed checking out these designs. I've been on the lookout for a good desktop email client to use, and one of those major deciding factors is, "It has to look good." Being a major fan of the Metro style, I seriously wish your designs were an actual skin/theme for an email client.

That said: I understand the idea of making this darker so it has the idea of being the "background" of the app, but going from the stark white to the absolute black is going to be very hard on the eyes for any user... let alone at night. Taking some direction from the Zune software, you can see that the "Quickplay" page, while darker than the others, is not a solid black; it's just a mildly dark gray. This doesn't seem like a huge difference, but it really can be.

(Additionally, this applies to the other parts of the concept you have; the lighter pages of the Zune software are not solid white... at least, the majority of the backgrounds available aren't. The "Zero" background is white, but I think it's safe to say most users use one of the other backgrounds, all of which are a light, faded, desaturated image.)

Those criticisms aside, I can't wait for someone to come along and code this theme concept up for all of us.

Thanks for the comments. Part of this whole creation stems from Windows Live Mail shifting to the ribbon, which makes more options visible, but is way too busy when it's open, but no functionality is available when it's closed. The ribbon has it's place, largely in highly technical programs [Office, for example], and I actually miss the old look of the mail program a little bit. [link]

Even working on it, the stark black does seem like a bad choice, and looking at how the Zune software does settings, I may just keep the background the same bright color, but the navigation setup will be as it is here. I'm probably going to add a background to the general UI, trying to figure out if it'll just be some gray tones, or maybe a soft image, but I'm going to package this all up into kind of a presentation as a final upload.

Thanks again for the input.
